My newest project is where I compose my own music with my fellow composer Christine Kammerer (singer, lyre player, pianist). We started playing together several years ago in the viking band Gjaldulei, but during the covid lockdown, a new project emerged. All our concerts were cancelled, so instead of sitting at home, we decided to work with our music in a new way. That ment going deep into the forest and spending several hours among the trees; sitting on an empty beach letting the sound of the waves guide our voices and instruments; or walking in the hills, enjoying the view and talking to the birds and animals.
After the lockdown, this process resulted in us having several different band projects besides our Viking band. It was a bit confusing, so we simply made the decision to merge all of them into a single new band. And so Jotunger was born. We still play with Jotunger at Viking festivals and similar events as a Viking band, but also as a Nordic folk fusion band with modern instruments like piano, cello and guitar.
